US Men's Lacrosse Defeats Ireland 27-2

RADNOR, Pa. -- Scott Urick scored six goals, five of them in the first 23 minutes of the game, as the United States men's lacrosse team defeated Ireland 27-2 at Radnor High School in its opening exhibition game. The U.S. will play two more exhibition games before the International Lacrosse Federation World Championship begins on July 13 in Canada.

The U.S. scored the first 12 goals of the game and completely dominated play, winning all 17 first half face-offs. After jumping out to a 6-0 lead after one quarter, the U.S. scored four goals in the opening 3:26 of the second quarter, including the first three by Urick.

Michael Powell added five goals and two assists for the U.S and Casey Powell had four goals and a pair of assists. Combined with Ryan (1g, 2a), the Powell brothers combined for 16 points in the victory.

Ireland got goals from Brian Murray and Brian McGettigan while goalies Pat Vaughan and Pat Carney combined for 16 saves.

U.S. goalies Trevor Tierney and Chris Garrity each made three saves while allowing one goal.

The U.S. reports to training camp at Syracuse on July 2 and will next play on July 3 against a Central New York area all-star team at Syracuse's Coyne Field at 7:30 p.m. The U.S. team wraps up its exhibition schedule on July 6 in Boston against the Major League Lacrosse All-Stars.
